Sir Thomas Maclear’s article entitled ‘Earth Measurements in the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern,’ is the last in the volume (pages 381 – 408). Herschel has made several manuscript annotations and diagrams in the margins of this essay.
Sir John Herschel (1792-1871) and his farther Sir William before him, formed a considerable library at his home ‘Collingwood’ near Hawkhurst in Kent.
