This is the tenth publication in the South African Library Reprint Series. Published in 1982.
It is a facsimile reprint of the very first issues of the Cape Town Gazette, also called the Kaapsche Stads Courant, the FIRST newspaper to be published in South Africa.
Starting with Saturday 16th August, 1800, and ending at 10th October, 1801, this edition reproduces the whole first year of the newspaper's weekly issues, each issue appearing in both English and Dutch.
It is a most valuable social record as it affords the modern day reader a glimpse into the everyday activities of South Africans who lived over two centuries ago. House sales, advertisements, public auctions, sales out-of-hand, addresses, notices, ship arrivals, runaway unpaid servants etc.
