Founded in 1937 & disbanded in 1963, the Kenya Regiment took part with great distinction in the WW2 and particularly in the campaign against the Italians in Abyssinia. The Regiment had been raised almost entirely by those who had settled in Kenya but in 1950, when the regiment was re-formed, the Green Jackets were asked to provide the permanent staff whilst former members made up the majority of officers and NCOs. During the subsequent Kenya Emergency the Regiment did much to put down the native independence movement.
