Engraved frontispiece portrait of Caesar, title page, dedication (vii) & advertisement leaf, civ + 335 + (xx) indexes, 85 fine engravings and maps - 55 plates are double-page, 6 double-page maps, includes the large folding ‘Urus or Buffalo’ plate (no.41) which is trimmed close, it has been skilfully repaired and laid down on matching paper, plates 78 – 86 are of Caesar’s triumphal entry into Rome, contemporary full calf with gilt and blind decoration and gilt titling on a label on the spine, rebacked preserving the original back strip – the rebacking is probably work dating from the early 20th century and the upper joint is now splitting and the front board is almost detached, marbled endpapers. A handsome copy, the text, plates and maps are crisp.
