First edition: 383 pages, frontispiece, numerous black and white drawings, marbled end papers, half brown calf with red title label gilt on the spine and gilt armorial crest of the school on the upper cover – a prize binding, foxing throughout, all edges gilt, prize label on front paste down end paper, both hinges starting to wear, a good copy.

Alfred Wilkes Drayson (1827–1901) was an English army officer, author and astronomer. He was a personal friend of Arthur Conan Doyle.
