Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography vol.2 page 617: Although nominally a history of the Matabele War, the book is practically an account of that part of Africa now known as Rhodesia, from the times of Moselekatse to the death of Lobengula. The volume takes the form of individual chapters by a number of contributors and the two authors and compilers, many of the writers being men who took part in the exploration and settlement of the country, and in the final struggle with the last king of Matabeleland. There is a description of the occupation of Bulawayo, the flight of the king with the remnant of his army, an account of the loss of the Wilson Patrol, and other interesting matter connected with the annexation and settlement of Matabeleland.
