275pp, complete.

Very good condition. Pages clean, binding tight.

An extremely scarce copy of Wyndham's study of South African thoroughbreds. Despite being a member of one of the grandest of families (the Egremonts of Petworth) Hugh Wyndham preferred the rigours of the South African high veld. Also, despite his political, military and imperial ambitions, it was his passion for horses and racing that is his legacy.

Some subjects include:

Earliest Importations, Racing at the Cape, Lord Charles Somerset, The Hantam Inquiry, Breeding in the Western Province, Some Early Cape Studs, Racing in the Eastern Province (1820-50), The Cape Horse in India etc.
