443 pages: illustrations, portraits. (1 as frontispiece), maps (1 folding). Cloth. Slight spotting on preliminary pages. Signed by Tabler on title page.

In this scholarly work, Tabler follows in chronological order the stories of the early hunters, explorers, missionaries and traders who opened up the area that became known as Southern Rhodesia. Tabler felt that the stories of the period before the concession hunters, imperialistic wars and occupation had to be chronicled.
