A very nice copy of the first edition of this important and scarce early work documenting the cradle days of Witwatersrand Gold mining, only 6 years after the founding of Johannesburg. In the original maroon cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Over 400 pages with prelims, appendices and advertisements. Large eight segment folding map of the Goldfields tipped in.
A very good or better tight crisp copy with a few small stains on the front cover. Inner hinges intact. Slight lean to the spine. Fairly large signature on the front free endpaper but otherwise unmarked.
