The first edition of this important S.African mining book. 306pp. Numerous charts and diagrams and two large folding maps enclosed in a pocket at the rear of the book. The first map is entitled "The Witwatersrand Gold Fields" and measures 133 x48cms. The second map "Map of The Southern Transvaal" measures 88x48cms.
The original red cloth with gilt titles has a slightly sunned spine, a light stain and small area of bubbling on the front cover, but remains in very good clean unmarked condition. There is very slight spotting of the edges of the text block but no foxing inside. The two maps are in nice condtion but a 7cm. edge tear of the larger map has an archival tape repair on the rear. Overall a very good copy.
