Facsimile reprint: 575 pages, portraits, illustrations, pictorial end papers, full red faux leather binding with gilt title on the upper cover, titled gilt on the spine, top edge gilt, a very good copy in the worn matching red skivertex slipcase.

On the title page at the bottom: A facsimile reproduction with new foreword and rare historical pictures.

The limitation page reads: This is to certify that only 1000 numbered copies of the Great Boer War have been printed, The number of this copy is 779 signed by the director of Scripta Africana.

Doyle served as a volunteer physician in the Langman Field Hospital at Bloemfontein between March and June 1900,during the Second Boer War in South Africa (1899–1902). Later that year, he wrote a book on the war, The Great Boer War, as well as a short work titled The War in South Africa: Its Cause and Conduct, in which he responded to critics of the United Kingdom's role in that war, and argued that its role was justified.
