xxii + 354pp. Illustrations in profusion of South Africa's most important monuments. Publisher's coarse cloth binding with pictorial dust jacket. Binding is solid and the book is clean internally. Jacket in good condition although with some age-associated edge wear, light chipping to spine ends and a short tear at the bottom rear corner.

Published in 1972 by the Rembrandt Group which was founded by South African billionaire Anton Rupert. Initially the business started as a tobacco company which eventually transitioned into the luxury goods sector. Today the company is split into two entities, Remgro, an investment company, and Richemont, a luxury goods group which owns the brands Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Piaget, Dunhill, Van Cleef & Arpels etc.

Rupert took great interest in the preservation of historical monuments and his company funded and published this work. He was also a leading figure in the conservation of natural history and was one of the founding members of the World Wildlife Fund.
