xxii + 354pp. Illustrations in profusion of South Africa's most important monuments. Publisher's coarse cloth binding with pictorial dust jacket.

Inscribed on the half title page by South African billionaire Anton Rupert. He was the founder of the Rembrandt group, a tobacco company which eventually transitioned into the luxury goods sector. Today the company is split into two entities, Remgro, an investment company, and Richemont, a luxury goods group which owns the brands Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Piaget, Dunhill, Van Cleef & Arpels etc.

Rupert took great interest in the preservation of historical monuments and his company funded and published this work. He was also a leading figure in the conservation of natural history and was one of the founding members of the World Wildlife Fund.
