The last volume deals in full particulars of the Jameson Raid and its consequenses, the conquest of Rhodesia, and the political situation throughout South Africa one year before the commencement of the South African War, 1899-1902.
A gift inscription on title page of volume two reads: Archibald A. Kidwell, June 13th 1899. A present from father. Archibald Kidwell was a well-known Missionary (1876-1954) He was at time the Superintendent Minister of Primitive Methodism on the Rand and could speak Dutch / Afrikaans. Archibald Alexander Kidwell was born on 13 June 1876 at Jamestown, Albany District, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. He was baptised on 2 December 1876 at Aliwal North, South Africa. His parents were Alexander James Kidwell, a general dealer, and Jane Willis Orchard. Archibald married Kate Hollidge (b1884) in late 1903 at Norwich, Norfolk.
