Vol.I, consisting of thirteen parts, was initially published fortnightly in a serial form, then bound by the publishers into a single tome at the end of the series in 1901. The idea of a second series was however abandoned and Vol.II only appeared three years later as a single publication. The author apologizes for this long delay to his subscribers in the preface to Vol.II.
