Published to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Johannesburg in 1966, this volume gives a complete history of the city in two parts: The Johannesburg Saga (pp.1-447) with 17 chapters ranging from the discovery of gold to the Jameson Raid, Anglo-Boer War, The Revolt on the Rand, Modern Johannesburg; and the second section (pp.448-1123) detailing the Histories of the Municipal Departments.

Illustrations consist mostly of black and white photographs, and at the end of the first section there are 20 pages of full colour photographs of famous landmarks and buildings.

Total pages: 1159 including indexes.

Condition: the green boards are in very good condition, gilt cover and spine titles; contents clean throughout, binding very good (small owner sticker at top of f.f.e-p.). The dust-jacket has a heavily chipped top edge, with creasing and wear at the folds, not price-clipped.
