Judge Carl Jeppe (1858-1933) was the brother of Witwatersrand mining magnate Julius Jeppe. He arrived in the Transvaal in 1871 and in 1876 took part in the war against Sekhukhune as an adjudant under the command of Col. I.P. Ferreira. He joined the Transvaal civil service in 1877 and was public prosecutor in the Waterberg, where he regularly also had to regularly act as magistrate. In 1886 he was member of the Diggers' Committee and in 1888 he was chairman of the First Chamber of Mines.
