Sold with a letter to Mrs. Botha from Olive Schreiner and a photograph (see images) The photograph was taken at the Vaal River, Parys. The image is small and the people pictured are difficult to identify with certainty. The book itself is inscribed to Mrs. Botha from Olive Schreiner. Original dark blue cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine and the upper board. Errata slip attached to the front paste down. xxxiv prelims, 456 pages, frontis with tissue guard, 35 of the 36 (Picture of Rev. Walter Walsh - page 120 - not present) black and white illustrations, including the frontis portrait with its tissue guard and the Appendix, which is a music page. There are pencil notes and corrections on 6 pages for the purchaser to identify the hand that wrote them. (see image) CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has some edge wear with small tears and a little loss of surface. There is some foxing throughout. The letter and the end papers have tape residue marks. The letter has a few repairs to close tears.
