Lacerda's Journey to Cazembe in 1878. Translated and annotated by Captain R.F. Burton, F.R.G.S., Also Journey of the Pombeiros P.J. Baptista and Amraro José, across Africa from Angola to Tette on the Zambeze. Translated by B.A. Beadle; and  Resume of the Journey of MM. Monteiro and Gambitto, by Dr. C.T. Beke.

These translations were commissioned by the Royal Geographical Society in response to the increase in interest caused by Livingstone's account of Cazembe and central Africa. Penzer (N.M.) An Annotated Bibliography of Sir Richard Francis Burton (1923), pages 89-90. Burton's portion of the book ends on page 164. He had, however, written two appendices, which were rejected by the R.G.S. which considered them to be in the nature of controversy and criticism. Burton published them privately in Trieste in July of the same year.

In the original blue cloth with gilt title on spine. Top and bottom of spine and corners bumped. End papers a little worn with paste down ex-libris at front. Some foxing in prelims and very lightly at rear.
