Hardback with original grey boards with blue outline and spine titles. Dustcover unclipped.

Written in the form of a novel The Last Temptation presents Jesus of Nazareth as the great example of the struggle between God and Devil which goes on in every man. His life is shown as the gradual transformation of flesh into spirit, as a growing resistance against the violent desire of some of the Israelites for a Messiah armed with an ax to chop away the Roman tyranny.

And Jesus himself comes to understand only gradually that he must abandon his home, resist the tempting life of asceticism in the desert and finally must accept the inevitability of crucifixion.

Half Title, Title, Prologue, 519 pages text.
