Ink  name  of  Marius  Kleynhans  on  the  front, free, end-paper. Very  slight  rubbing  to  the  corners  of  the  boards. Page  175  creased, diagonally. Dust-jacket  slightly  rubbed  with  light  creasing  to  the  edges  of  the  dust-jacket. Spine  of  the  dust-jacket  ever  so  slightly  faded. Dust-jacket  now  preserved  in  an  acid-free, protective  sleeve.

Frederik Van Zyl Slabbert (1940 – 2010) was a South African political analyst, businessman and politician. He was the leader of the official opposition, the Progressive Federal Party (PFP), in the South African House of Assembly from 1979 to 1986. Slabbert played a leading role in initiating dialgoue between white South Africans and the African National Congress (ANC). His efforts led to the Dakar conference of 1987. This conference represented the first step towards dismantling apartheid and informed subsequent negotiations which changed the course of South Africa's history.

Marius Kleynhans worked as a political jounalist with the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation)  until  1990. He spent much of this period in both Washington and London. In 1990 he was invited to join the Constitutional Development Service as communication advisor to the constitutional negotiations. He stayed with the CDS until after the first national elections. He  first  got  to  know  Frederick  Van Zyl Slabbert  when  he  was  elected  to  Parliament  in  1974 and  they  remained  friends. Mr.  Kleynhans  worked  closely  with  Mandela and the others until 1995.
