240 pages, colour frontispiece, map, plans, numerous colour and black and white plates and illustrations, brown skivertex gilt, dust jacket preserved in a protector, contained in the original publisher's brown vynide-covered slip case which is illustrated with scenes from Rourke's drift on the sides, a very good copy.
This impressive volume was published to coincide with the centenary of the Zulu War in 1979. At At the time it was not a commmercial success and copies were being remaindered by the early 1980's (these did not have the slipcase which is present with the copy offered here). However, within a few years and the growth of interest in the Zulu War it became scarce and much in demand. Most of the numerous colour illustrations in the work are from a set of contemporary coloured lantern slides.
