240 pages, large 4to (330 x 295 mm), colour frontispiece, map, plans, numerous colour and black & white plates and illustrations, brown skivertex with gilt vignette on upper cover, titled gilt on the spine, light foxing on the title page, otherwise a very good copy in the dust jacket, housed in the original publisher's brown vynide-covered slipcase which is illustrated with scenes from Rourke's drift on the sides.
This impressive volume was published to coincide with the centenary of the Zulu War in 1979. At the time it was not a commercial success and copies were being remaindered by the early 1980's (these did not have the slipcase which is present with the copy). However, within a few years and the growth of interest in the Zulu War it became scarce and much in demand. Most of the numerous colour illustrations in the work are from a set of contemporary coloured lantern slides.
This edition is limited to 1 000 copies of which this is number 10.
