Publisher's black cloth binding with bevelled edges. The white lettering to the upper panel and spine has rubbed off.
Publisher's "cloud-effect" endpapers with light-blue patterns on a beige background, presumably intended to symbolise the Eternal Kingdom. Publisher's plain black cloth binding to evoke funerary solemnity.
Seventy-eight pages of letterpress text with accounts of the funeral ceremonies from the columns of The Cape Times, Diamond Fields Advertiser, and The Bulawayo Chronicle, followed by forty-five full-page photogravures - all on heavy matt art paper. Frontispiece of Rhodes still retains its original tissue guard.
There is some heavy foxing on the preliminary pages up to page 6, and then again on the blank versos of the final two plates and the rear endpaper. The rest of the book is clean with only the occasional light mark.
Binding is solid with edge wear commensurate with age.
Originally printed for private circulation, surviving copies are few.
A valuable memorial to the man who not only gave his name to Rhodesia but who was also Prime Minister of the Cape Colony, first citizen of Kimberley and chairman of the Chartered Company.
A facsimile reprint of this 1905 edition was published in 1972 by Books of Rhodesia in a limited print run of 750 copies.
