vi + (1 leaf contents and list of illustrations) + 402 pages, hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece, hand-coloured emblematic title page "The Life of a Sportsman" with eight sporting vignettes, 34 hand-coloured plates by Henry Alken, full red morocco by Riviere, richly gilt decorated spine in panels, covers triple gilt ruled, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. First issue in fine condition with plates 13, 14, 18 and 55 mounted and plate 33 titled The Shooting Drag a la Tandem.

Tooley (R.V.) English Books With Coloured Plates, A Bibliographical Account, No.65, (pages 82/3), Considered by many to be the premier coloured plate sporting book in the 19th century, by others as sharing this honour with Jorrock's Jaunts.
