Album of Siege Slips compiled just after the relief of Mafeking with some Slips reprinted for this issue, and some of the original printings that remained in the publisher's stock.
The collection is staple bound and in a blue cloth covered binding with gilt titling on the upper board. Preface page, two pages of text listing the members of the town guard present during the siege followed by the Special Siege Slips complete from number one to 152 - excepting for number 56 which was not issued because the type was struck by a Boer shell before it could be printed.
A very scarce publication. See the research by Dr. R.M. Pelteret at www.pelteret.co.za. The present copy appears to be the final and third printing bound in Prussian blue.
CONDITION DETAILS: Since paper was scarce during the siege, many different papers were used, some in different colours and some extremely thin and fragile. Overall, most issues are still clean and intact, but some have edge tears and a few have been repaired with tape. Some fold out, as is number 35, which has torn in half. This half has been loosely inserted. Overall clean, but there are some Slips with soil marks: Slip Number 92 has a large 12 cm stain at the bottom edge. The binding is in poor shape with the first text pages and the last Slip loose.
