THE NEWPORT MERCURY.
The first 15 issues for the year 1842, published weekly, vol. 81, nos. 4,158 to 4,172. Illustrated advertisements, shipping news, official R. I. reports, with a smattering of literary works and news stories from afar— Texas, Canton, etc.
Early owner’s name on most of the issues (D. Hall), stab marks indicate they were stitched at some time, though probably not bound, now loose.
Typical wear and tear, staining and foxing, but overall in acceptable. Short, unbroken run of this important newspaper, one of the few to survive the from the colonial era into the 20th century.
