The indomitable Baker and his wife Florence spent several years in the region hunting and exploring the upper reaches of the great river's tributaries in this case the Atbara and the Rahad.

This is a presentation copy for Lord Hamilton and signed by the author on a pasted down brown note on new endpapers.

596pp with 32 illustrations and frontis of the Bakers. Rebacked blue boards with gilt vignette of elephant chasing horseman while swordman attacks the elephant and gilt title on spine. Light general wear for its age and some light foxing on the title page and at the end of the index.
