How it works

Register

Pope and publisher Lintot had an acrimonious relationship about this tranlation, and the former received a mere pittance for the work. In this 12mo (duodecimo) small format edition, Pope\'s notes (Observations) were subjoined to the text page by page, rather than at the end of each book. Each of the 24 books is preceded by \"The Argument\" & most an engraved plate; most books have a tailpiece. Adverts for Lintot books are included in all volumes. The books are in original full calf, somewhat ageworn as is to be expected, and the labels on the spine are all missing or indecipherable. There is some chipping to the tops and tails of the spines, and Vol 1 is cracked at the spine, while Vol IV seems to have shed its leather on the spine altogether as well as showing some signs of damp intrusion into the textblock. Still, quite a good set for its age
