Number 6 of an edition limited to 750 copies, this volume being one of the first fifty, "specially bound in de luxe style." Volume 29 in the Africana Collectanea Series, a text facsimile of the Hurst and Blackett edition of 1861. 8vo; brown half leatherette with lighter brown rexine sides, gilt lettering piece to second compartment and publisher's gilt device to upper board; pp. (vi) + xxiv + 371, incl. index; plates. Joints very slightly rubbed; bookplate of R. K. Fraay to front pastedown (see 'South African Bookplates from the Percival J. G. Bishop Collection', p. 43); edges and endpapers foxed, occasional fox spot elsewhere. Very good condition.

"A description of a hunting expedition through Namaqualand and Damaraland. Andersson intended to explore these countries right up to the Cunene or Nourse River, but the difficulties of the expedition, though encountered with indomitable courage, proved to be insuperable, and he had to turn back. He obtained, however, much valuable information, and his success as a hunter and collector was unique in this part of the continent. The coast-line of South-West Africa is carefully described, and there is an interesting account of the once-famed guano island, Ichaboe." - Mendelssohn
