Two diagrams: The evolution of the amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals & The evolution of man and the apes from the beginning of the eocene.

The author was known for his study of mammal-like reptiles and his discoveries of partial remains of six hominids (Plesianthropus transvaalensis) at Sterkfontein, became known as 'Mrs. Ples'. With discoveries at Kromdraai and Swartkrans support was given to Professor Raymond Dart's claims for the Taung species, (1924) 'Australopithecus africanus', the early hominid.
