A very good copy in the original grey printed wraps of this very scarce 100pp. booklet on the politically important mining strikes and industrial action of 1922 which resulted in the loss of 200 lives. Illustrated with numerous photographs. With the ownership signature of G.D. Massey on the front cover, a presentation inscription from Massey to F. Wartenweiler on the inside of the front wrapper above the ex-libris of F.W. Hosken - altogether a very substantial providence.
Slight browning of the grey wraps but otherwise a very clean tight copy. Enclosed in a custom made quarter cloth and faux snakeskin chemise with the title on the front cover.
Mr. F. Wartenweiler was the chairman of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1921/1922. Mr. G. D. Massey was a well known businessman who became Managing Director of Mosenthal Brothers Ltd, whose name was a household word amongst all sections of the fanning community. The F.W. Hosken library is well known to collectors of Africana.
