Hackett, \'South African War Books\', page 98. \'An extensive record of the O.L.I. in South Africa. The 1st Battalion joined Lord Roberts\' force in the march to Bloemfontein taking part in operations at Paardeberg in February 1900. Thereafter the Battalion moved to Kroonstad and garrisoned various posts on lines of communication. In August 1900 the Regiment joined a column under Gen. Knox operating along the railway from Kroonstad to the Vaal. The Oxfords took part in a most successful engagement at Bothaville on Nov. 3 capturing over 100 Boers, guns and stores. From late 1900 the O.L.I. were based at Heilbron with companies on detachment doing column work and garrison duty. The narrative is complete to the spring of 1901. The volume contains a comprehensive record of the Mounted Infantry Company, a chapter on the transportation of Boer prisoners to Ceylon, together with despatches, casualty lists and other statistical matter.\'- Binding Condition: Fair
