Dark red boards with gilt blocking and Beaver vignette to upper board, and gilt spine titles.

A brief study of Canadian involvement in the Anglo-Boer War is easy. When one has listed the two or three purely Canadian markings and some patriotic covers the balance of the collectable material relates to actions and events in which, although Canadians were involved, they left no direct philatelic record. This is unfortunate from both the historical and philatelic point of view. Ther were, after all, over 3200 men and twelve distinct Canadian military units involved.

A problem with many postal history studies is that they tend to begin " in medias res" they ignore much valuable background information and tend to concentrate on the purely postal history aspects of the study. Obviously there are some periods or subjects that are of such breadth and complexity that this approach is the only one possible, luckily the Ang0-Boer War is not one of them.
