Full leather binding with barreled spine with gilt decoration and gilt titling. Gilt fillegree border to boards outside and inside.

Head of spine on both volumes shows finger-pulling with separation on Vol II for 3cm. Marbelled eps.

Paperblock top edge gilt is bright.

Each volume has a different frontispiece portrait of Marie Antoinette.

Pages very lightly age tanned.

Volume I: lxxvi + 397pp.

Volume II: ix + 398pp.

Each volume has eight illustrations on steel. The blank leaf facing the illustration shows offset. There is light, sporadic foxing throughout.

Mm Campan was First Lady in Waiting to the Queen.
