It is claimed that this publication affords a narrative of the exact facts of the Slachter's Nek episode, and there are no comments on the part of the compiler or the editor. Mr. Leibbrandt was successful in discovering "the evidence given at the trial.....in the handwriting of the Secretary to the Special Commissioner that tried the accused, the late Mr. Beelaerts van Blokland, every declaration being signed, or cross-marked by the witness who made it,as well as by Messrs. P.Diemel and W.H.Hiddingh--the two members forming the commission--and the secretary, the aforesaid Mr. Beelaerts van Blokland."The compilation includes the " History of the case of Frederik Bezuidenout, and such letters as were written on the subject by the Governor, Landrosts Cuyler and Stockenstrom, and others...... They throw much light on the state of affairs on the borders, and the means employed for the better protection of the residents there." There is also " a map of the eastern portion of the colony, on which all the places mentioned in the trial area are marked."
