Bound in modern quarter red morocco with red cloth sides, some light foxing and staining on a few leaves, overall a very good copy.

This copy comprises what is now generally accepted to constitute and complete set of the English edition of the Record. A note in the hand of Alfred Gordon Brown states that he assembled this complete copy from two defective copies in January1939.

Donald Moodie, writing in his “History of the Battles” (1888) discusses his attempt to locate a complete copy of his father’s book in Cape Town in 1883, stating, ‘The late Mr Juta, inter alia, was applied to without success, and he surmised that success would be attended by the disbursement of about forty shekkels of gold.’ Copies which contain Part III with pages 65 – 112 are particularly scarce.
