An account of \'a great South African Regiment\' in the Second World War. From the Foreword by Field-Marshal J.C. Smuts: \" The Transvaal Scottish are no strangers to me because wherever South Africans have triumphed or endured hardship or met reverses in was they heve borne their share of the burden. What a proud record theirs is. I remember them before Aus in 1914 and at Trekkopjes in 1915; their famous march from Erongo to Otaviefontein made military history. In 1940... I chose the 1st Battalion to represent the Transvaal in my handpicked 1st SA Infantry Brigade... and in 1947 saw them proudly recieve new Colours from His Majesty the King.\"
