The Educational Book Company supported students, who sold Chartwell Editions door to door. The young salesmen usually carried a "sample" bound in black leatherette, with "SPECIMEN" blocked in gilt on the top board. The boards fold back to reveal two options for binding, the colour frontispiece and title page of Volume I, pages of text, and twelve maps from Volume II, together with twenty-four pages of photographs and four colour plates.
