This is the story of many of the intrepid 1820 British Settlers, from their arrival, until 1870. It is a factual account of the trials and tribulations they had to face, their need for survival under the most primitive conditions, facing danger daily from wild animals and savage wars directed against them by the Xhosa. All this, notwithstanding floods, droughts, heat and cold, locust invasions, their need for survival was so great that they had to "take root or die". This book should prove of interest, not only to the eleven hundred living descendants, but to lovers of history, genealogists, collectors and the ducational sector; 136pp, this being copy 507 of 1000.

Condition: white boards and contents very good, tightly bound, pages yellowing with age. The jacket is in good condition, somewhat faded, and with some dates scribbled on the top of the rear panel. The author signature appears at the bottom corner of the f.f.e-p., and a typed insert has been stuck above, of an extract of a letter from Dr Frank Bradlow to Mrs Goldswain.
