The first Matt Scudder mystery and exceedingly scarce in this first UK and first hardcover edition, which followed the first (paperback) US edition of 1976 by three years and preceded the first US hardcover edition of 1992 by sixteen years. Thought to be one of not more than 1000 copies, most of which went to libraries.
A fine (probably unread) copy in a just about fine dustwrapper which has a single 6mm. closed tear along the top edge of the rear panel and some minimal fading of the red lettering over the spine.
