White plate with flecked gilt border, portrait of Kitchener at the centre, "The Sirdar," no maker's name or place, no date (circa 1898).
225 mm in diameter, there is minor flaw in the transfer print to the right of Kitchener's head in the centre portrait, otherwise in very good condition.
Kitchener was created Sirdar (commander in chief) of the Egyptian Army in 1892. He led British and Egyptian forces in the Sudan campaign which culminated in victory at the Battle of Omdurman on 2nd September 1898.
