Register

William John Burchell of Fulham (1781-1863), was a scientist and artist who visited South Africa during the years 1810-1815. His book Travels in the interior of Southern Africa appeared in the years 1822-24.

Two volume set limited to 300 copies. A period of fourteen years elapsed between the publication of the first and second volumes, therefore copy numbers hardly ever match. In this set Vol.I. is number 141, and Vol.II. is number 272.

Both volumes bound in the publisher's three-quarter leather with gilt tiles and original dust jackets. The books are in fine condition, with no inscriptions and clean pages. The dust covers are in near fine and fine condition with only the dust cover of Vol.I having a tear at the top edge, but without loss of paper.

Volume I: - THE BACHAPINS OF LITAKUN.

Collotype reproductions with descriptive text edited by Helen M. McKay. Gubbins Trust Publications No. 1.

Volume II: LANDSCAPE SKETCHES.
