Contemporary photograph of Olive Schreiner laid down on a preliminary page. Cutting laid down on verso of front free endpaper. Offset browning to title page.

Accompanied by a folded, undated letter from Olive Schreiner, laid down on front free endpaper.                             

As the address is given as Matjiesfontein, it could have been written during her stay there between 1890-1892. The short stories referred to could possibly have been STORIES, DREAMS AND ALLEGORIES or THOUGHTS ON SOUTH AFRICA, which were both published posthumously.
