Original blue cloth covered boards with gilt titling and decorations on the spine, blind stamped decorations on the boards and a gilt decoration on the upper board. All edges gilt.

Light yellow end papers, xv prelims, 408 pages, large folding map opposite the title page.

CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has some edge wear, especially at the head and tail of the spine and the corners. The library number "790" is written on the spine. The front paste down has the ex-libris of the Sons of England Patriotic and Benevolent Society. The "Historical Research Committee" stamp occurs on the end papers and also a few places in the book. The map has a few creases and a closed tear at the base.
