2 volumes: I.  470. II. (471) – 1018 pages – continuously  paginated, 48 coloured plates (including the frontispieces), 505 illustrations, 9 maps, original blue cloth gilt. 20 mm gash in the spine of volume II, and the front free endpaper of volume II is creased – this appears to be a production fault, the contents of both volumes are bright.
