Second edition (the first to be published in London): 387 pages, tinted lithographic frontispiece, 6 lithographic plates, folding map ‘Exhibiting the relative positions of the emigrant farmers and the native tribes, May 1837’ compiled by the author with the route of his travels outlined in red, inscription of a previous owner on the half title page, bound in half green leather with red title labels on the spine, green vynide sides – the edges of the spine and the corners are worn and the top edge has been trimmed in the rebinding leaving two plates with no margins at the top, Bindings in this style were commissioned by Struik Booksellers in the 1950’s and 60’s from a monastery in Mozambique. The contents are in good condition.
