A 3pp. autograph letter on 3 sides of a folded leaf, 8vo, Jan. 19th. 1831.,circa 240 words. To "My Dear Sir": (Andrew Picken 1788 - 1833, author of "Mary Ogilvie" which was published in 1824) declining a contribution for "Friendship's Offering" (of which Pringle was editor) as ".....too much in the romantic vein......I am truly sorry.....having.... a most favourable estimation of the talents of the writer of the touching tale of 'Mary Ogilvie'.......There is something in embryo that may, I trust be rendered of some advantage to you" (possibly referring to the editorship of a literary work called "The Club Book" which Picken undertook in 1831).
Thomas Pringle (1789 - 1834) was a Scottish poet; friend of Walter Scott, by whose influence he obtained a grant of land in South Africa; returning to England in 1827; author of "Ephemerides" in 1828; "South African Sketches" in 1834, etc.
In very good condition despite a 3cm. split at the lower fold. Pringle letters are uncommon.
