This lot comprises the following three volumes:

1. Die Lewe en Skilderwerk van Maggie Laubser. By Elizabeth Josephine Botha. June 1964. Folio. Thesis bound in black cloth backed boards being the dissertation for the degree of Master of Arts (MA) at the University of Pretoria. 189pp of text and circa 10 additional leaves of images comprising black and white photocopies of the works of Laubser, tipped in, two per page - a few coming adrift but complete. In Afrikaans. Ex libris The Department of Education and Culture with some rubber stamps and a pocket at the rear. A good copy.

2. Catalogue Raisonne of Maggie Laubser's Work 1900 - 1924. Volume 1 (only) By Elizabeth C. Delmont. Thesis bound in blue buckram being a dissertation submitted to the Department of Arts, Witwatersrand University for the degree of Master of Arts. Johannesburg, 1979. Folio. 190pp. Text only. The presumed Volume 2 with images is not present. A good copy with some rubbing of the rear cover adjacent to the spine.

3. Bereedeneerde Katalogus Van Die Werk van Maggie Laubser. Tweede Deel. Debuut en Erkenning. Dept Kunsgeskiedenis, Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit, Johannesburg. 1980. Introduction E.P. Engel, Project Leader. Folio. 387pp. Bound in full red buckram with gilt lettered spine. This seems to be a project of the Art's History Department at the University of Johannesburg and not a thesis. Apparently the first part of a more extensive work, dealing with the artist's early years. The first 233 pages are devoted to the catalogue. The following 154 pages comprise a variety of elements such as photocopies of press articles, transcriptions of interviews or radio or TV programmes featuring Laubser and other ephemera. Ex libris The Human Sciences Research Council with several rubber stamps and a Cancellation stamp. A good copy.

Together these three items contain a wealth of Maggie Laubser material, much of it not availabe elsewhere. Moreover they are presumably very scarce and would be well nigh impossible to find elsewhere. For the Laubser completist!
