This lot comprises three nice first American editions of Faulkner novels, not commonly found in South Africa as, in common with most of the major American novelists, the UK editions were the ones which arrived in this country. The lot comprises:
1. Intruder in The Dust. 1948. Random House. First Printing. A near fine unmarked and unfoxed copy in the original black cloth blocked in gilt and blue. In a very good minus dustwrapper which has some light damp stains not very visible on the exterior, with some edge wear and a chip about 8x4mm. at the junction of the lower spine and the front panel. Not price clipped.
2. A Fable. 1954. Random House. First Printing. A very good copy in the original maroon cloth. There is faint evidence of an erased inscription on the front free endpaper (not damaging the paper), otherwise the book is crisp, unmarked and unfoxed. In a very good complete lightly edge worn non price-clipped dustwrapper which has a 15x12mm. light external archival tape repair at the lower edge of the front panel. (see images).
3. The Town. 1957. Random House. First Printing. A very good copy in the original orange cloth. Small bookseller’s label along the lower edge of the front free endpaper, otherwise a clean unmarked and unfoxed copy. In a very good plus complete dustwrapper which has light edge wear at the extremes of the spine which is slightly dulled. Not price-clipped.
